THE WOMEN'S THEATRE WORKSHOP was set up by Cheryl Robson and a group of women writers and directors who came together to write and perform work in the late 1980s and 1990s. It grew out of the Writers Workshop at the Drill Hall Arts Centre which Cheryl co-founded with Janet Beck in 1987.

Cheryl worked as a producer, dramaturg and Artistic Director during her time with WTW. The company developed and produced plays by UK and international women playwrights over a decade, introducing UK audiences to the work of writers such as Dacia Maraini (Italy), Marina Carr (Ireland) and Nawal el Sadaawi (Egypt).

They staged several full-length plays, dozens of playreadings and performances and delivered hundreds of workshops on writing and directing.

Cheryl also helped to set up and run the first Mentoring programme for women writers and directors in the UK in association with The New Playwrights' Trust and the Directors' Guild in 1995.
